Nizzy’s Top 5: Older Rock/Alternative Rock Songs (Top Five Older Red Hot Chili Peppers Songs)

So i was were originally going to do the top 5 for older rock/alternative rock songs, but then i realized that the top five were all red hot chili peppers songs so later i will do a new article and have another top five excluding RHCP. Feel free to comment with your own top 5, or point out any songs you feel I might have left out and should give a listen to. So we were originally going to do just the top 5 for older rock/alternative rock songs, but there are just so many good ones that we had to include 5 more songs that did not quite make the cut. The songs that just missed the cut make up my top 10 for this category. Feel free to comment with your own top 5, or point out any songs you feel I might have left out and should give a listen to. Here is what I think are the 5 best rock/alternative rock songs before 2000:

1. Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” is the first single and song off of Nirvana’s second album, Nevermind. This song is probably their most known, as well as most successful song. Many people first heard of Nirvana because of this song, it helped make Nirvana one of the most popular bands in the world at the time. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. This was the first song I heard by Nirvana, and it left me wanting more. Kurt Cobain’s opening guitar solo, before Dave Grohl starts on the drums, draws my attention immediately and entrances me. The Krist Novoselic plays the bass perfectly. The guitar, bass, and drums go well together throughout the song. Cobain’s voice isn’t the greatest, but it goes so well with their style of music. Overall there’s nothing else I can say, other than that this is probably the best rock, or grunge, song.
